How to Stay in the Loop
At John Hay Elementary School, we strive to inform our community about school events, school needs, volunteer support, community updates, new initiatives, and all the day by day happenings in the halls of this extraordinary school. For the 2016-2017 school year, we are making a special push to ensure we are meeting the communication needs of every John Hay family. Here is a list of ways we communicate and how. If we have missed one, please let us know. Our goal is to keep you as well-informed as we can. For details on Seattle Public Schools communications and policies, please visit their website.
Red Folders (aka: Kid Mail)
At the start of the school year, your child will be given a red folder that is to go to and from school each day in their backpack. Your child's classroom teacher will use this folder to send home permission slips, homework, event announcement, classroom newsletters, and much more. It is vital that you check this folder daily.
The School Messenger system is used by Seattle Public Schools to email, text, or call our families directly about events, announcements, and the like.
The John Hay Elementary School website is a great resource for school policy, district news, the school calendar, staff, and more. This site is maintained by staff at the school, as well as volunteers. Please contact them directly if you have questions around bell times, policy, procedures and general school questions.
John Hay Elementary School Partners Website
John Hay Partners strives to bring you community information for John Hay Elementary School. This website is a great resource for community events, ways to volunteer and current volunteering needs, our blog, before and after school activities, fundraising events and programs, meeting minutes, and so much more. This website is populated by community volunteers and is a work in progress as they are always trying to better serve our community needs.
John Hay Elementary school’s calendar is located on the Seattle School District's John Hay website. The calendar is updated by the Seattle Public Schools, John Hay Elementary School Staff, and community volunteers. There is currently a bug in the SPS website that makes downloading the calendar data impossible. Until it is fixed (no timeline given on that) we've put together a public Google calendar, maintained by the Hay Partners board. Visit the Google calendar here.
John Hay Elementary School Blog
The John Hay Elementary School Blog contains information about what is happening at John Hay including our community news, volunteering, event reports, teacher features, and the From the Principal's Desk blog. Take a moment to check out what is currently there as well as read it weekly. Would love to see more around a certain topic? Let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
John Hay Elementary School sends a weekly bulletin, AKA Jaguar Tracks, via the school messenger. This email newsletter is our all-school communication sent every Friday. It includes John Hay Elementary school information that is relevant to the entire school community. Important dates, social events, enrichment information, community celebrations, school-wide volunteer needs, fundraising activities, and district & legislative announcements are all common topics in our weekly newsletter. To be kind to the environment the newsletter is sent digitally and posted on our website, yet if you would like a paper version our John Hay Office staff can accommodate. Send them an email at email@example.com and they can add one to your child’s red folder. We try to cover all the important need to know facts, yet if you have feedback, community news, or an article you would like to be added it must be sent to the John Hay Office Staff by Noon on Thursday.
