    Below you’ll find information on some of the most frequently asked questions from community partners of Seattle Public Schools in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.     Q: Where can I find resources the district is offering for students and families? 
    A: SPS has created a COVID Resources Page, where you can find lots of good information. This page includes information on where families can access food via the 26 SPS meal sites, information on where childcare is being offered for essential workers and low income families and which sites have openings, learning resources by grade band, and more.

    Q: If I have a contract/MOU with a SPS school/s to work with students, can I continue that work?
    A: Yes, organizations on personal services contract with the district can resume services. You should speak directly with your school partners to determine how to continue partnering to support students, and how your organization and the school will maintain communication and coordination. All schools are doing some form of distance learning, and there may be ways to collaborate on developing lessons, holding check-ins with students, sharing learning content, and generally providing supports to students and families.   

    Existing contracts and MOUs will be honored as long as the work with students continues in some form, in collaboration with your partner schools. Minor changes to the scope of work that are made in order to adapt to online/distance engagement are fine. If you have a paid contract, document work hours as you normally would in order to provide accurate invoices. 

    Q: How will CBOs document services rendered during this remote learning time? 
    A: CBOs will be required to keep a service log during this time of remote learning. Some providers have created their own service logs.

    Q: Can "office hours" for families to contact us be invoiced for the month? 
    A: If direct contact with student or families during "office hours" did not occur, this time cannot be invoiced. Only direct services to students and families can be invoiced towards the contract.

    Q: How can students in my program get access to technology resources if they don’t have them available at home? 
    A: The City of Seattle has information on low cost internet for low-income families. SPS is in the process of distributing laptops to students who need them. Amazon donated 8,200 laptops for SPS elementary students, which are currently being distributed based on need. This gift allows the district to prioritize distributing district laptops to high school students.

    Q: How can I as a partner get access to technology resources to stay in contact with students? 
    A: We have been working with the Department of Technology Services on ways for our partners to stay in contact with students for the remainder of the semester. If you need access to Microsoft Teams to video conference and connect with your students, please email Jennifer Chamberlin jachamberli1@seattleschools.org, Partnership Data & Systems Manager, for help with obtaining a contractor SPS email address. If you already have an SPS email address and need access to Teams, please let Jennifer know you would need your permissions to be updated.

    Q: Are there new or different legal requirements and safeguards for working with students?

    A: As we transition to a new format for the provision of education and services to students, it is important to take into consideration steps that should be taken to minimize risk for both students and staff. The district recognizes some student services require one-on-one student contact. However, when not required, the district strongly suggests that contact should occur with more than one student, more than one adult, or both. 
    Before working with a student, partner staff and volunteers must:
         ⦁ Complete online training: Preventing Sexual Abuse of Children and Youth
         ⦁Review Board Policy No. 5253, Maintaining Professional Staff/Student Boundaries
         ⦁ Completed Background Check:

    1. Unsupervised contact with students (1 on 1): A national background check must be completed prior to working with students. Volunteers must also complete a state background check in each subsequent year of work.
    2. Individual has resided in Washington state less than three years: A national background check must be completed regardless if the student contact will be supervised or unsupervised.
    3. Individual will always be supervised when working with students and has resided in Washington state for more than three years: A state background check must be completed prior to working with students

    Q: My program has capacity to support additional students – what should we do to find students who need support?
    A: Please complete our partner survey to indicate what sort of support you can provide and if you have capacity to support additional students. We are doing our best to work with schools and partners to bring resources and supports to those who need them. You can also always email us at communitypartnerships@seattleschools.org.

    Q: How do I support families with basic needs?
    A: In addition to information about the 26 Seattle Public Schools sites distributing meals, every family should get signed up with their food bank (some may do direct deliveries). Families can also use SNAP/EBT when ordering food from Amazon. Additional resources related to food and other basic needs can be found at United Way.

    • Residential evictions have been halted. This is effective immediately and will last for 30 days or until Seattle's coronavirus emergency ends, pending the council's approval. If a family has received a summons and complaint, a court order scheduling an eviction hearing, or a writ of restitution, they can contact either the Housing Justice Project at 253-234-4204 or the Tenant Law Center at 206-324-6890 for legal assistance over the phone.
    • Mayor Jenny A. Durkan announced that the City of Seattle will provide 6,250 families $800 in vouchers to purchase food, cleaning supplies, and other household goods at any Safeway store. This resource is available for families who are currently enrolled in City-supported child care programs and food assistance programs. An article with additional information can be found here.
