How to Stay in the Loop
How to Stay in the Loop at John Hay
At John Hay Elementary School, we strive to inform our community about school events, school needs, volunteer support, community updates, new initiatives, and all the day by day happenings in the halls of this extraordinary school. Each year we make new efforts to ensure we are meeting the communication needs of every John Hay family. Here is a list of ways we communicate and how. Our goal is to keep you as well-informed as we can. Set up your communication preferences.
Red Folders (aka: Kid Mail)
Your student has been given a red folder that is to go to and from school each day in their backpack. Your stuent’s classroom teacher will use this folder to send home permission slips, homework, event announcement, classroom newsletters, and much more. It is vital that you check this folder daily.
School Messenger
The School Messenger system is used by Seattle Public Schools to email, text, or call our families directly about events, announcements, and the like. Download the School Messenger app, especially for additional languages.
School Website
John Hay Elementary School
The John Hay Elementary School website is a great resource for school policy, district news, the school calendar, staff, and more. This site is maintained by staff at the school, as well as volunteers. Please contact them directly if you have questions around bell times, policy, procedures, and general school questions.
PTSA Website
John Hay PTSA
John Hay’s PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association) website is a great resource for community events, ways to volunteer and current volunteering needs, fundraising events and programs, and more. This website is populated by community volunteers and is a work in progress as they are always trying to better serve our community needs.
School Calendar
John Hay Elementary school’s calendar is located on the Seattle School District’s John Hay website. The calendar is updated by the Seattle Public Schools, John Hay Elementary School Staff, and community volunteers. And you can subscribe to have all the dates added to your personal calendar.
Jaguar Tracks
John Hay Elementary School sends a weekly bulletin, AKA Jaguar Tracks, via the school messenger. This email newsletter is our all-school communication sent every Friday. It includes John Hay Elementary school information that is relevant to the entire school community. Important dates, social events, enrichment information, community celebrations, school-wide volunteer needs, the latest PTSA news, and district & legislative announcements are all common topics in our weekly newsletter. To be kind to the environment, the newsletter is sent digitally and posted on our website, yet if you would like a paper version our John Hay Office staff can accommodate. Send them an email at mkruediger@seattleschools.org and they can add one to your child’s red folder. We try to cover all the important need to know facts, yet if you have feedback, community news, or an article you would like to be added it must be sent to the John Hay Office Staff mkruediger@seattleschools.org by noon on Thursdays.
Room Parent Emails
We are lucky to have a wonderful team of dedicated parents who work hard to get the word out about all things happening at Hay. You should be receiving emails from your classroom parent periodically starting by October. If you are not receiving any communications, please contact your child’s teacher to be sure we have the best email by which to contact you. If you would like to be a room parent in the coming year, please contact the office. Thank you!
